This is the default order as it appears in the Japanese game script, and the naming order may not apply to every character in the games. In contrast to how things are done on this site's other Ace Attorney pages, Japanese names here are kept in traditional order (family name before given name). The reason that they are given dubbed names, is due to the Japanese names often being meaningful and punny names - the puns would not be understood when the game was translated, so it was deemed necessary to simply put in English meaningful and punny names. Some fans even have never heard of the original names, or can't keep those apart. Unusually for this trope, Western fans usually use the dub names when discussing this series, unless specifically referencing a Japanese release, or the No Export for You Gyakuten Kenji 2 (which itself has a fanmade translation that Westernizes all the names).
